Advent 2014: Wonderful Counselor
Meg Chaney
The Old Testament prophets dreamed of a day when a Savior would come into this world. The Savior, Jesus Christ, would make it possible for God to live in communion with man. He would be the Wonderful Counselor. And He would dwell within each of us.
When we read from Isaiah last night, much of it went right over my small daughter's head. I'm not sure she even knows what words like "Wonderful Counselor" mean. And so, for now, my basic goal is to just express how exciting these prophesies were. How they spoke of something spectacular to come. Something you and I get to experience each and every day. We have the priviledge of experiencing the Wonderful Conselor. Of listening for His voice in our lives. Of feeling His presence on the hard days. Of seeking His wisdom in all things. I pray, as my daughter grows older, she longs for this fellowship as well. And I pray that as I interact with my children today, respond to their needs, break up disputes, calm down tears, that I share God's love with them. That peace is ever evident in our home this Christmas season. And that I always remember the spectacular gift of our Wonderful Counselor.
