She Is His

Meg

“When the bull had been sacrificed, they brought the boy to Eli, and she said to him, ‘Pardon me, my lord. As surely as you live, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.’ And he worshiped the LORD there” (1 Samuel 25-28 NIV).

Hannah has always amazed me. She was a barren woman who longed for a child year after year. When she finally received that child, she gave that child right back to God, bringing Samuel to the temple to live and sere. She literally gave up her son to God. I’m sure her mother heart ached with the loss and loneliness of that choice. I can’t imagine my little girl living apart from me. But Hannahs’ story is a wonderful reminder of the fact that our children ultimately never do really belong to us. They are Gods, given to us to raise up. As I look down at my little girl, fast asleep on my arm, I’m amazed by the gift God has given me. I have such a great task ahead of me, so much to teach her. I’m sure at times humanity will come into play, and she and I will both fail, but ultimately, I hope that she knows that she is a special treasure created for a unique purpose on this earth. He created her, He sustains her, He holds her every breath in his hands. She is His.
